TEMPO.CO, Kendari - Deputy Governor of Southeast Sulawesi Lukman Abunawas tested positive for Covid-19 after he underwent a swab or polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test at Kendari Bahteramas Hospital Laboratory on Monday, August 31.
Lukman carried out the test on his initiative as he suffered from fatigue after carrying out several activities and official trips. In the past two weeks, Lukman accompanied the Public Works and Housing (PUPR) deputy minister Jhon Wempi Wetimpo to an event held in a hotel in Lepo-Lepo, Kendari.
Lukman, who is also a chairman of the province’s legislative council (DPD) PDIP faction, also conducted several party events, including support declaration in East Kolaka Regency and Konawe Island Regency.
The acting head of Bahteramas Hospital, Ridwan, confirmed the positive status of Lukman Abunawas. He demanded people who made contact with the latter to undergo medical tests.
The provincial Covid-19 mitigation task force spokesman, dr. La Ode Rabiul Awal, reported that the province saw a drastic hike in the virus transmission. In the past two months, the number of confirmed cases rose to 300 percent, while the fatality rate skyrocketed to 400 percent.
As of September 2, 2020, Southeast Sulawesi has 1,623 Covid-19 cases and reported 32 death tolls.
