TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - University of Maryland’s chief of infectious disease, Dr. Faheem Younus MD, in a tweet dated September 1, responded to a Twitter post mentioning Indonesia’s plan to reopen cinemas amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, and encouraged Indonesians to avoid visiting theaters or cinemas.
He highlighted the possibility that even an asymptomatic COVID-19 sufferer in a cinema may infect other people, which is to convey how contagious it can be to gather in indoor locations.
The second reason he noted is the poor ventilations the general cinema has while the third reason he stated is prolonged exposure to the risks of contracting the disease.
He also responded to a Twitter user’s post citing an Indonesian government official’s statement claiming that people’s immunity can increase because they are happy, which in turn could enhance the mental and physical condition of the community.
Which Dr. Faheem Younus replied: “Being “happy” won’t prevent COVID; being careful will.”
