COVID-19 Task Force: Long Holidays Helped Spread the Virus

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian national task force on the handling of COVID-19 recorded that Jakarta’s sudden confirmed cases spike happened as national holidays were taking place throughout the weekend, commonly known as a long-weekend, from August 16-August 22.
“The majority of new cases of infections were traced back to the long weekend from August 16 to August 22. The infection rates were considerably high during this period,” said the COVID-19 task force spokesperson, Wiku Adisasmito on Monday.
He explains that people need to obey health protocols to prevent further spreading the COVID-19 and asserts that the coronavirus pandemic is still happening all over the globe.
As of Monday, August 31, Jakarta’s positive cases had yet again exceeded 1,000 cases, 1,043 cases to be exact, which adds to the total cases in Indonesia’s capital city to 40,086. In the national scale, Indonesia has recorded 174,796 positive COVID-19 cases so far with 125m959 recoveries and 7,417 deaths.
