TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - After a six-month hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) announced on Tuesday that it will open Mount Bromo for the public.

Head of the TNBTS, John Kenedie, said that tourism access to Bromo will officially be opened on Friday, August 28, 2020.

He said the decision to reopen the popular tourist site has obtained the permit from the Ministry of Environment along with local administrations of Probolinggo, Pasuruan, Lumajang, and Malang.

“It will definitely impose strict health protocols and will be opened gradually,” said John on Tuesday, August 25.

The multi-region administrations agreed to open tourist access to Mount Bromo from the four aforementioned regencies. John explained that visitors will be limited to 80 percent but during the first initial phase will be limited to only 20 percent (178 people) of Bromo’s capacity that can accommodate 829 visitors.

The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) in partnership with the COVID-19 task force will conduct weekly evaluations and will determine future tourist limitations.
