TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto on Thursday said the Indonesian government has prepared a budget up to Rp5 trillion to produce a COVID-19 vaccine. He targeted to make it available for mass immunization for 128 million people in 2021.

“The government is expecting to see this vaccine next year,” said Airlangga on Thursday’s virtual dialogue with Tempo upon preventing the economic crisis, August 20.

However, Airlangga maintains that the availability of a vaccine is not a single solution to the health and economic problem. He mentioned that the United States is preparing a four-time vaccine and the budget that is needed to provide its citizens with the cure.

The immunization in Indonesia that he refers to must be able to vaccinate around 180 million people, with each receiving two injections. This means that vaccination will need up to 360 million doses to one million people each day.

“Surely, one million vaccines will be prioritized to hard-hit regions in eight provinces. It would gradually move to age demography and the effective age cap will be between 19 to 59 years old,” he said.
