TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) supports the combinations of drugs against the COVID-19, being developed by Airlangga University (Unair) in collaboration with the Indonesian Army (TNI AD) and the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), to be granted production and distribution permits by the Government.

"We must fully support the COVID-19 medicines invented by the nation's children to obtain production and distribution permits," Anwar Abbas, MUI Secretary General, said in a press release on Sunday.

The MUI considered the medicine combinations against the COVID-19 developed by the joint team of Unair, BIN and TNI AD, an encouraging achievement and a prise of Indonesia.

"We are pleased because our nation, God willing, will be able to quickly overcome the COVID-19 health crisis which has really disturbed the peace of our lives over the last five months," the Chairman of Muhammadiyah, Indonesia's second largest Muslim organization, remarked.

Abbas hoped that the development of the COVID-19 cure by the nation's scientists would enable the resumption of normal activities and the economy recovery.

"Moreover, this discovery is the first one in the world. This is certainly very encouraging and makes our nation proud," he added.

He even hoped that the government would also support the COVID-19 drug combinations and help market them overseas.

"Of course, we really, really hope that," said Abbas.

Earlier, researchers from Airlangga University, and BIN claimed to have found combinations of medicines effectively reducing the number of Sars-Cov-2, the coronavirus in the human body.

All the combos use medications already available in the market, according to . Purwati, the head of Airlangga University's Stem Cell Research and Development Center, last June.

The first drug combination comprises Lopinavir, Ritonavir and Azithromycin; the second Lopinavir, Ritonavir and Doxycycline; the third Lopinavir, Ritonavir and Clarithromycin; the fourth Hydroxychloroquine and Azithromycin, and the fifth Hydroxychloroquine and Doxycycline.

"We observed the combinations for 24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours, during which the number of viruses lowered from hundreds of thousands to undetected," she told the press.
