TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has monitored the process of the phase-III COVID-19 vaccine trials on humans held at Padjadjaran University's (Unpad) Faculty of Medicine, Bandung, West Java, Tuesday, August 11.

A total of 1,620 volunteers participated in the clinical trials.

“We hope that the third phase clinical trials will complete in 6 months,” said Jokowi after overseeing the process.

The antibody candidate was developed by Bio Farma in cooperation with China-based pharmaceutical firm Sinovac Biotech. Following the research process in China, the vaccine candidate was imported to Indonesia last month for clinical trials in Bandung.

“We hope, inshaAllah (God willing) in January, we can already produce the vaccine and then hold vaccination for all Indonesian people as soon as the vaccine production is ready,” the state head remarked.

Jokowi said that Bio Farma was initially targeted to produce 100 million doses of vaccine this August, and 250 million doses at the end of the year. “It means this is the vaccine that will be used for vaccination in the country,” he added.
