TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Mount Sinabung located in Karo Regency, North Sumatra, has erupted again on Monday, August 10, 2020, at 10:16 a.m. local times, with the ash column reaching 5,000 meters above the crater or around 7,460 meters above sea level.

The ash column was seen to be greyish with thick intensity and leaning to the east and southeast, as quoted from the data release of the Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Agency or PVMBG.

The volcano is now at Level III or Alert status. People and tourists are barred from doing activities in relocated villages, approaching the crater within the radius of three kilometers, and from being within five kilometers for those in the south and the east, and four kilometers for those in the east and the north sector.

People are advised to wear face masks when leaving homes if the rain of ash occurs following the eruption in a bid to lower the health bad effects from the ash.

They are also asked to ensure clean water facilities and clean the roofs from thick volcanic ash to prevent collapse. Those living near the rivers heading up on Mount Sinabung are warned to stay alert of possible hot and cold lava floods.
