TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura II on Monday reported a significant increase in air traffic across 19 airports it operates throughout July with 143 percent growth (1.52 million passengers) compared to June that only recorded 627,576 passenger traffic.

This obviously comes along with a spike in aircraft activity with 21,431, which is a 65 percent increase compared to June that only saw 13,020. Angkasa Pura also reported a 14 percent growth in cargo capacity in July.

“The recovery of air traffic activities this year happened since the middle of June, amidst the pandemic and parallel to the support shown by regulators through a series of policies and strict health protocol implementations,” Angkasa Pura II director of operation, Muhamad Wasid, wrote in the company’s latest release.

The country’s largest international airport Soekarno-Hatta throughout July recorded 897,559 passengers in July, which is a 125 percent increase compared to the previous month along with 68 percent in air traffic movement.

According to Angkasa Pura II, commercial flight slot times across airports run by SOEs also saw an average growth of 30 percent with even higher growths forecasted in the future due to the safe travel campaign 19 government-run airports introduced.
