TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the COVID-19 vaccine clinical trial at the Padjadjaran University faculty of medicine, Kusnandi Rusmil, on Thursday announced that there are roughly one thousand volunteers who have registered as human test subjects.

“There are roughly one thousand,” he said to Tempo today, July 30.

The announcement for the vaccine clinical trial was met with ample public enthusiasm as one of the registration spots had already taken up to 350 volunteers. The trial will need up to 1,620 volunteers in total.

Members of the public who wish to volunteer can register at four community health centers (puskesmas) and two locations in the Padjadjaran University campus area. He said that the registration had been opened since Monday, July 27.

The clinical trial team is looking for physically healthy volunteers aged between 18-59 years old, have a good history in abiding by current health protocols, and have no history of COVID-19 infection. In total, the team is expecting to involve 1,620 volunteers.

Later on the process, half of the volunteers will be injected with the vaccine while the second half will be injected with saline. Both groups will undergo blind tests to create a comparison between the two test groups.
