TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The national COVID-19 mitigation task force recorded five provinces that contributed the highest positive cases on July 29, 2020.
They are Jakarta with 577 new infections, East Java with 359 cases, Central Java with 313 cases, North Sumatra with 241 cases, and South Sulawesi with 128 cases.
“Those figures are new daily cases, and the five provinces are destinations of mass exodus ahead of Eid al-Adha,” said the task force spokesman Wiku Adisasmito in an online press conference on Thursday, July 30, 2020.
Wiku suggested the public stay at homes and avert from joining the exodus, except for emergency reasons. “Please consider not going mudik if it is not necessary,” he underlined.
Wiku further announced that for the past three weeks, the testing capacity and the number of confirmed cases tended to increase. If the two rates were compared, the country’s positivity rate would hit 13.3 percent.
“The rate of 13.3 percent exceeds the WHO recommended positivity rate of 5 percent. This requires extra vigilance to suppress the transmission rate,” Wiku said.
As of July 29, 2020, Indonesia’s confirmed COVID-19 cases reached 104,432 cases. Of these, 62,138 patients have recovered, and the death tolls recorded at 4,975.
