TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Surabaya Zoo in East Java Province has started to welcome tourists today, July 27, following the closure of the tourism sector in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic that began in March.

The Surabaya Regional Economy and Business Agency Head, Agus Hebi Dujuniantoro, said the operator had conducted simulations of the predetermined health protocols against coronavirus transmission, both for officers and visitors.

The Regional Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA), the Indonesian Health Scholars and Professional Association, and the Surabaya Health Agency had also examined the readiness of the tourist attraction.

“They allow the reopening of the zoo under several conditions,” said Agus Hebi on Sunday, July 26.

The zoo operator, he explained, must implement the health protocols of the mandatory use of face masks, the physical distancing, the maximum capacity of 50 percent or 3,000 visitors, and others. According to him, the management had met the requirements.

The Surabaya Zoo CEO Chairul Anwar added that visitors are required to buy the ticket online and present the barcode before the entrance gate. To prevent crowds, they must also follow the set path to enjoy the park.
