TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bali Governor Wayan Koster confirmed on Wednesday, July 22, that the province will start to welcome international tourists on September 11, 2020.

During a webinar on Wednesday, Koster explained that his side set three recovery stages during a new normal era following the COVID-19 pandemic. The first stage that was still being applied was driving the local economy.

“The second stage begins on July 31, 2020, meaning that Bali will be opened for domestic tourists,” Koster added. Several ministers were scheduled to attend the tourism opening ceremony, including Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi and Tourism and Creative Economy Wishnutama Kusubandio.

The third stage, he went on, is set to be slated on September 11. “Starting that day, we start tourism activities for international tourists,” Koster said.

Before the reopening of the tourism sector, the Bali provincial administration had issued health protocols that must be applied in every tourist destination.

Moreover, foreign tourists are reminded to present valid documents declaring they are free of COVID-19 as stipulated in the transportation ministry’s circular.

Previously, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo instructed each regional administration to implement tourism quality in a new normal era. With this, tourists will gain a sense of safety and comfort so that they can stay longer and spend more in the region.
