TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In commemoration of the National Children’s Day which falls today, July 23, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo along with First Lady Iriana sent messages to Indonesian kids amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

As published on the Youtube channel of the Presidential Secretariat, the president reminded children across the archipelago to be disciplined in applying the health protocols of wearing face masks, avoiding crowds, and washing hands regularly.

“It is necessary because the only way we can do to prevent from getting coronavirus is by complying with the health measures with discipline. Can you all do that?” Jokowi said.

The state head claimed that he had always been looking forward to a field visit in order to meet Indonesian kids directly. The smiles of children, he added, fueled up his spirit.

He also acknowledged that many children could not wait to go back to school and play with their friends, and so he asked them to have more patience given the ongoing pandemic.

Jokowi and Iriana then asked the children to keep studying and praying so that the pandemic will soon pass. “So children can learn with teachers at schools again and play with their friends,” Iriana Jokowi added.
