TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The new spokesman for the national COVID-19 mitigation, Wiku Adisasmito, confirmed that the government had brought vaccine samples from the China-based pharmaceutical company, Sinovac.

Other than from China, Wiku added, Indonesia would possibly import vaccines from the United Kingdom. “Later, we will have Indonesian-made vaccines, and imported ones from the UK,” he said at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Office on Tuesday, July 21.

However, he stopped short of detailing the vaccine from the UK.

The government targeted to massively produce the coronavirus antibody in early 2021. “It is expected to be produced soon, some are still in clinical trials. Hopefully, the production will start at the beginning of next year,” Wiku added.

According to him, the development of the COVID-19 vaccine was still being carried out in cooperation with several institutions. As reported earlier, the samples from Sinovac had arrived in the country, and so the government would begin clinical trials.

State-owned pharmaceutical firm Bio Farma CEO Honesti Basyir claimed his company was ready to produce 40 million vaccine doses at the beginning of its production, which is targeted to start early next year.
