TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Communications and Informatics (Kominfo) Minister Johnny G. Plate has revealed several regulations to accelerate the digital transformation, which include the completion of telecommunication infrastructure in Indonesia.

In a virtual seminar in Jakarta, Monday, July 20, Johnny outlined the other rules such as the development of supporting technology, an adequate number of digital HR, up to the completion of primary legislation and international partnerships.

The four were noted in more detailed policies. One of them was the launching of the multifunction satellite dubbed Satria in 2023, which had been informed by the ministry since last year.

The construction project of the satellite started in the end of 2019 and is expected to launch in 2022. In 2023, it is hoped to operate and serve 150,000 service points across the archipelago.

The ministry is also striving to add and arrange the 1,310 Megahertz (MHz) frequency. The available capacity is presently at 737 MHz.

With this addition, the ministry hopes the capacity will be 2,047 MHz by 2024 in order to optimize the 4G network and prepare its expansion to 5G.

Additionally, the ministry will expedite the distribution of internet networks throughout Indonesia and reduce existing disparity. To date, the government has built 479,125 Base Transceiver Stations (BTS). “So we don’t only push the electrification, but also 'internetification',” Johnny said.

The Kominfo Ministry, he went on, was preparing the National Data Center with a storage capacity of 72 petabytes and the bill on personal data protection.
