TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned airliner Garuda Indonesia and its subsidiary Citilink Indonesia have committed to imposing a strict sanction to its pilots over drug abuse by terminating their employment.

"Based on the investigation and our coordination with the police regarding the pilots of Garuda and Citilink involved in the drug abuse, the company has imposed a sanction on the pilots by terminating their employment," Garuda CEO Irfan Setiaputra said in a written statement Saturday, July 18.

The company had even tested more than 122 aircrews and operational officers at Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport as Garuda Indonesia's commitment to guarantee air safety and security. "As an effort to prevent narcotics abuse in our company," the CEO said.

The result showed that all of the tested crews and officers of Garuda Indonesia were cleared of narcotics, psychotropics, and other addictive substances.

"Garuda Indonesia Group also conducts drugs test to all of its employees periodically as a preventive measure of drug abuse in the company and to guarantee the safety and comfort of Garuda customers," Irfan added.
