TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - MRT Jakarta continues to record a daily increase in users’ traffic of up to 22,000 passengers since the office and economic activities were reintroduced.
“Last I checked it reached 22,000 [passengers],” said MRT Jakarta Director William Sabandar in Wednesday’s hearing with the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Commission B.
According to him, the increase in daily passengers had been observed since June with an average increase of 13,000-17,000, which is a stark contrast to the daily passenger traffic in April and March that only attracted 4,000 passengers as the COVID-19 pandemic had only started.
Prior to the pandemic, William said the daily MRT users averaged about 88,000 passengers. “The drop was extremely significant from 88,000 to 4,000 from March to April,” said William Sabandar.
He also attributed the drop to the physical distancing measures caused by health restrictions that limit one train car to 70 people from the initial 250. MRT Jakarta will also reduce the target from 100,000 to 60,000 passengers.
