Indonesia Adds 1,447 COVID-19 Cases, 651 Recoveries

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia has recorded 1,447 new coronavirus infections and 651 recoveries on Saturday, government spokesperson for COVID-19 response, Achmad Yurianto, said.
"The spike (in COVID-19 cases) does not mean that all new cases are being treated in the hospitals,” he observed, adding cases have been detected during contact tracing of infected patients.
Based on data recorded on Saturday, “the total number of positive cases now stands at 62,142, while the number of recoveries has now reached 28,219," he said at a virtual press conference from Jakarta on Saturday.
Meanwhile, with 53 more patients succumbing to the virus, the death toll has climbed to 3,089.
The government is carrying out testing on a massive scale, Yurianto said. So far, 894,428 samples have been tested for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the hospital bed occupancy rate for COVID-19 patients is 53.50 percent, he informed, adding many beds are vacant.
"The new cases we discovered in the past couple of weeks were accompanied with minimal clinical symptoms which did not indicate conditions that required inpatient treatment," Yurianto explained.
Patients with minimal symptoms are usually encouraged to carry out independent quarantine, which is important to prevent further transmission, he added.
