TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Head of Yogyakarta’s tourism board, Singgih Rahardjo, announced on Tuesday that 10 tourist destinations in the special region will be opened for the public on July 1 as the region is ready to embrace the ‘new normal’ phase.

The ten destinations are spread across three districts: Gunungkidul, Sleman, and Bantul. The tourist sites ready to be reopened include Gunung Api Purba Nglanggeran, Pantai Baron and Kukup, dan Kalisuci.

Meanwhile in Bantul, popular tourist spots ready to open its doors include: Puncak Becici, Pinus Pengger, Seribu Batu, Pinus Sari and Pantai Parangtritis and Tebing Breksi in Sleman.

“There will be a trial period on June 24 - June 26 before it is entirely open for the public. Visitors will be limited to 50 percent capacity,” said SInggih on Tuesday, June 23.

According to Singgih, the destinations will implement the health protocols of the ‘new normal’ and also said that the COVID-19 emergency status in Yogyakarta will end on June 30.

“The tourism industry is actually already prepared for the new normal on July 1. They only need to wait for a regulation overseen by the governor’s regulation,” said Singgih.
