ITB Aims to Produce 900 Ventilators for Covid-19 Patients

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) delivered 139 ventilators that they made to hospitals in several provinces on Tuesday, June 23, 2020. Named Vent-I, the portable ventilators are designated for Covid-19 patients who can still breathe (clinical symptoms stage 2), designed to be used easily by medical personnel.

"For now, we are targeting to produce 800 to 900 units of the Vent-I, with funds from public donations, state institutions, state-owned and private companies," ITB's Electrical and Informatics lecturer who initiated the Vent-I development, Syarif Hidayat, said in a statement on Tuesday, Antara reported.

According to vent-i.org, 47 ventilators were distributed to East Java, 44 units to West Java, 20 units to Jakarta, 15 to Central Java, four to Banten, three to North Sumatra, and two each for Yogyakarta, Lampung and Kalimantan East.

The Indonesia Portable Ventilator Team (Vent-I) was formed in collaboration with ITB, Unpad, and YPM Salman ITB.

The Vent-I passed the product test by the Health Facilities Safety Center (BPFK) of the Health Ministry on April 21, 2020.
