TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Member of the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD Jakarta), Syarif, predicts that the transitional PSBB (large-scale social restriction) will be extended for the next three months.

“Based on the discussion with the executives, the transitional period will likely be extended,” said the DPRD member from Gerindra faction on Friday, June 19.

Syarif made sure that the partial restriction will not be lifted until it is completely considered safe. However, he said the government will continue to relax the restrictions until the deadline that is now deemed as the new normal.

Due to economic reasons, he said the government will not reconsider imposing a large-scale social restriction again, which he mentioned as a ‘soft lockdown.’ He noted that the Jakarta administration will announce the second transitional phase on July 2nd.

“The information we have right now is that we will not return to the initial soft lockdown due to the economy,” said Syarif.

Even if the government deems it important to impose a large scale restriction, he assured that it will only be localized lockdowns.
