TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Health Agency held mass COVID-19 tests on 1,198 traditional market traders in the Jakarta area. The agency’s chair Widyastuti announced that 137 people from the mass-PCR tests had tested positive.
“137 people from 18 traditional markets had confirmed to be positive,” said Widyastuti in a hearing with the Jakarta Legislative Council’s Commission E on Thursday.
Despite not detailing about what time of the day the tests were held, Widyastuti said market traders initially rejected to be tested. “It wasn’t easy to test the traders,” she said.
However, the Jakarta Provincial Government acted persuasively and assured the traders that the test was necessary to prevent and break the chain of infections. To initiate the tests, the city administration partnered with public figures, traders’ association, and Pasar Jaya communities to persuade traders to be tested for COVID-19.
