Covid-19 Cases Rising among Jakarta Traditional Markets Traders

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Market Traders Association (Ikappi) said there is an increasing number of traders in traditional markets exposed to Covid-19. As of June 15, another traditional market in Jakarta recorded confirmed cases, bringing up the number of markets to nine.

The new cluster is West Jakarta's Grogol Market. Meanwhile, the number of positive cases in North Jakarta's Serdang Market rose to 23 from just nine people three days bedore.

According to Ikappi chairman for memberships, Dimas Hermadiyansyah, the increase happens nation-wide, not just in Jakarta. To date, there are 573 market traders who tested positive for Covid-19, 32 have died.

In Jakarta, 64 traditional market traders now have the virus. Here is the breakdown:

  1. Central Jakarta

- Serdang Market, Kemayoran: 23

- Rawa Kerbau Market, Cempaka Putih: 14

- Lontar Market, Kebon Melati: 1

  1. South Jakarta

- Kedip Market, Kebayoran Lama: 2

  1. West Jakarta

- Grogol Market: 1

  1. East Jakarta

- Kramat Jati Market: 3

- Mester Market, Jatinegara: 1 (died)

- Klender Housing Market: 18

- Obor Market, Cijantung: 1
