TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Representative of the Communication and the ministry’s president-director of technology accessibility and information, Anang Latif, said “[The Ministry of Villages and Disadvantaged Regions] reported that there are still 13,500 villages without internet access.”

Meanwhile, the lack of a hurry to upgrade to 5G was also mentioned by Ahmanformatics Ministry (Kominfo) on Monday said that the ministry is yet to prioritize the upgrade from 4G to 5G for the near future as it prefers to focus on ensuring even accessibility across the nation.

Ahmad Ramli, director-general of information technology, said that requests for a 5G connection remain to come from a small number of industries as the number of businesses implementing cloud computing and automation is also limited.

“The current cellular internet has sufficient speed,” he said. “People might see Indonesia’s internet speed to be inferior compared to other countries, but look at Indonesia’s digital economy growth which is the largest.”

The president-director of PT XL Axiata, Dian Siswarini, does not dismiss the fact that members of the public are yearning for 5G to be implemented in Indonesia, however, she said that the service is not yet ready to be sold to the public and echoes Anang Latif and Ahmad Ramli on the current technology’s ability.
