TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s special staff of economic affairs Arif Budimanta on Sunday, June 14, admitted that the country’s COVID-19 protocol has not been implemented as a whole, which he said also happened in his own neighborhood.

“I witnessed for myself where the younger generation seemed to not care about COVID-19,” said Arif Budimanta in Sunday’s CIDES discussion.

Each night Arif returns home, he said there would be many young teens that would gather in a group without wearing any masks at a street in front of his house. He said these groups of people would spend the night in tight groups while enjoying coffee.

“Even though COVID-19 affects every age demographic,” said Arif.

As of June 13, Indonesia’s COVID-19 case count had reached 37,420, which is an increase of 1,014 from the previous day while the recovery tally had increased to 13,776 and the death toll reaching 2,091 cases.

The Jokowi special staffer then called for the public to not take it personally whenever authorities decide to eventually disperse large gatherings in public. “For our collective sake,” he said.
