TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Wednesday said that there must be a constant evaluation along with implementing the new normal once the protocol has been fully applied. The president asserts that he does not want to witness the second wave of COVID-19 infection hit Indonesia.

“[There needs to be] routine evaluation such as mapping areas with dropping numbers of daily cases. The situation in the field is still dynamic, don’t let your guard down,” said President Jokowi in his trip to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) headquarters today.

He asserts that success in controlling COVID-19 truly depends on people’s discipline upon following the required health protocols.

The movement into a productive society that is safe from the virus must be heavily based on actual reliable data and the facts in the field. Jokowi once again noted that implementing the ‘new normal’ must be dealt with extreme caution.

“Lest I remind you that if further development we find an increase in the number of cases, we will immediately impose restrictions,” said Jokowi.

However, the former Jakarta governor said the challenges that people face currently must be faced with high optimism.
