TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto in Tuesday’s online discussion with the Indonesian Bachelor of Economics Association (ISEI) argues that Indonesia would need 340 million ampoules of COVID-19 vaccines for 170 million people.

“There are 170 million people in society, this means they would each need two shots. So, at its minimum, we will be needing 340 million vaccines,” said Airlangga in the ISEI discussion on how to navigate the new normal.

According to Airlangga, the discovery of the COVID-19 vaccine in the world will have relaxed intellectual property rights. “Whoever finds them first can share it with other countries that enable co-producing countries,” he said.

As for Indonesia, the search for a vaccine is also done under a partnership with a number of South Korean companies. This complies with president Jokowi’s instruction that ordered state ministers to prioritize bilateral partnerships with countries that have less population compared to Indonesia. Airlangga said that fewer population countries are seen as an ideal partner.

Indonesia’s search and development for a COVID-19 vaccine are being led by PT Bio Farma.
