TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta health agency announced that the city has obtained 156,684 PCR swab test samples in its attempt to better detect coronavirus (COVID-19) cases.

Head of the agency, Weningtiyas Purnomorini, said that the samples are an accumulation up to June 2 across five areas in the capital city.

“There were 1,380 PCR tests conducted on June 2. As many as 1,135 tests were done to uphold the diagnosis on new cases [from reactive rapid test results] which found 83 positive cases and 1,052 negative cases,” said Weningtiyas.

In order to increase the testing capacity, the Jakarta administration had built a COVID-19 satellite laboratory in two locations at the complex of Pasar Minggu General Hospital and the Duren Sawit General Hospital. As of now, there are 41 of these supporting labs dedicated to testing COVID-19 samples.

There are also 58 sub-districts that were meticulously selected based on epidemiology studies subjected to rapid tests. These tests aim to obtain samples from senior citizens, residents with certain illnesses, and pregnant women.

The Jakarta health agency would then refer positive results found in the test samples to the Wisma Atlet emergency hospital, hospitals treating COVID-19, or instruct test subjects to conduct self-isolation.
