TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Provincial Government of East Nusa Tenggara or NTT will open tourist destinations in the area on June 15, 2020, including the popular Komodo Island in West Manggarai.
The Provincial PR Bureau chief, Marius Ardu Jelamu, said the decision was taken at a governance coordination meeting between Governor Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat with the Mayor of Kupang and other regents. In the online conference, they agreed to reopen all access to tourism to support NTT's economic development and tourism businesses.
This means that by June 15 all domestic and foreign tourists may enter NTT.
"Regencies with tourist destinations that attract huge crowds are expected to anticipate a surge in visits," Marius said in a press statement in Kupang, Tuesday, May 26, 2020.
He added that tourist attraction managers are required to implement health protocols to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus, such as limiting the maximum capacity, mandating visitors to wear masks and keep a physical distance, health and temperature checks for tourists and officials, providing hand-washing stations, and others.
