TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister for Cooperatives and Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs), Teten Masduki, has called for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to anticipate changes in the market condition due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Due to a change in public attitude, consumers who would previously go shopping in conventional markets will now prefer to shop online.

"In advance, Pak Jokowi (President Joko Widodo) gave me directions to accelerate the online transition (of MSMEs)," Teten said during a webinar, on Wednesday, May 20, 2020.

With only 13 percent of the total 64 million MSMEs that have been incorporated in the online market, as according to the ministerial records, Teten has identified the digitization of those businesses to a ministerial priority.

"We feel it is important to push our MSMEs into the digital ecosystem," he said. In spite of this, with the online market also being home to bigger brands, Teten has reminded MSMEs that are already online to maintain the quality of their goods and continue to innovate.

“That’s why it is important to prepare the quality of MSME products; and in the capital market, there already is an acceleration board to help look for capital,” said Teten.

During the COVID-19 economic recovery, the Ministry for Cooperatives and SMEs will push for the digitization of MSMEs. In doing so, the Ministry has collaborated with the Ministry of Finance and the Financial Services Authority (OJK) to provide financing facilities through banking.

"All MSMEs affected by the COVID-19 (pandemic) will receive recovery facilities," Teten added.
