TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The head of the national Covid-19 mitigation task force, Doni Monardo, said the World Health Organization or WHO predicted that the new coronavirus that causes Covid-19 disease may never go away.

Doni added the statement was made during a meeting of the government with WHO’s Executive Director of Health Emergencies Mike Ryan on May 12, 2020.

“Coronavirus may never go away,” Doni quoted Ryan’s remark via a teleconference on Wednesday, May 20.

Therefore, the concept of a new normal era emerged where people are forced to make peace with the disease. The government, he said, must prepare strategies to help the people living with it.

“There is no option unless we do have to dance, live with Covid-19,” said the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) head Suharso Monoarfa on the same occasion.

The strategies are being studied and drafted by the government as “Protokol Masyarakat Produktif dan Aman Covid-19” or the protocol of productive and safe community. The protocol is designed to adjust the social restrictions into a new normal of life after Covid-19.
