TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief of the Jakarta Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Diana Dewi, has stated that the extension of the Large Scale Social Restriction (PSBB) policy in Jakarta will cripple Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the capital.

According to Diana, SMEs, especially in the food and beverage sector, cannot take advantage of the momentum of Eid al-Fitr to maximize profit.

“Very concerning. (Eid) should be an opportunity for them (SMEs) to get a good profit. Turns out the PSBB is extended," she said when contacted, on Wednesday, May 20.

She said 90 percent of SMEs are associated with the Chamber of Commerce. Of this number, 30 percent are Micro Entrepreneurs who would previously maximize the momentum of Eid al-Fitr by setting up stalls in areas such as in the Tanah Abang Market, Central Jakarta.

However, with the current pandemic forcing people to stay home, the income of Micro-Entrepreneurs has plummeted. As such, continued Diana, they need to innovate to survive.

“(Businesses) impacted since the start (of the pandemic) are the ones in the food and beverage sector. Those who felt quite disappointed were the tenants at the mall," she added.

Previously, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has announced the extension of PSBB enactment by 14 days, until June 4, 2020.
