TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The police force tightened the supervision of people's traffic in and out of settlement islands in the Thousand Islands (Kepulauan Seribu), Jakarta, during the pandemic. Authorities said that the coordination, collaboration and synergy between the military, the police and local government continue to be strengthened to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

"The most important thing is to tighten the flow of human traffic," Thousand Islands Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. M. Sandy Hermawan told Antara in Jakarta, Friday, May 8.

According to Sandy, the only access to transport people and goods to and from the Thousand Islands is only by sea. Thus, controlling people's movements is the most effective way to prevent Covid-19 transmission.

"Boats transporting food staples continue to operate as usual," Sandy said, adding that the crew data of logistical transportation are being collected in detail.

With this data collection, if new ships dock in the Thousand Islands, the police would be more careful in handling them and taking action.

The Jakarta Provincial Government enacted a large-scale social restriction (PSBB) order from April 10 to May 22 as an effort to minimize the spread of the new coronavirus.

As per Thursday, May 7, Jakarta recorded 4,774 confirmed cases of Covid-19. Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 suspects are 9,218 people in self-quarantine and being monitored (ODP); and 6,295 under hospital observation (PDP).
