TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief of the COVID-19 Task Force Expert Team, Wiku Adisasmito, revealed that the central government is currently analyzing public life scenarios after the COVID-19 pandemic, in a bid to avoid a second outbreak.

“We want to prevent a second (COVID-19) wave, so the government is currently preparing an in-depth analysis regarding the pattern of new normal community behavior that can be applied after the pandemic," Wiku said in a press briefing with the media, on Wednesday, May 6.

With every country adopting a different approach in handling the pandemic, Wiku continued, Indonesia had observed and taken notes from other countries, prior to deciding policies which are considered most appropriate for the nation.

“We observed that some (countries) recorded a spike in (COVID-19) cases after the lockdown was lifted. In fact, this has happened in developed countries like Japan, especially in Hokkaido," said Wiku.

Previously, Chief of the COVID-19 Task Force, Doni Monardo, reported a slowdown in coronavirus transmission rate due to increasing public awareness to protect themselves and their surrounding from the pandemic. "The rate of new cases (discovered) has declined by 11 percent," he said.

In spite of this, the government has no plans to relax the enactment of the Large-Scale Social Restriction (PSBB) policy, as Doni warned the potential for a second wave of the pandemic a number of countries are experiencing.
