TEMPO.CO , Jakarta - Research and Technology Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro predicted that the Indonesian-made COVID-19 vaccine will be available in 2021.
“Hopefully, we will have the good news in early next year,” said Bambang during a joint meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VI, VII, and IX via a teleconference on Tuesday, May 5.
Bambang underlined that the Eijkman Institute for Molecular Biology had commenced researches on vaccine development since March 2020.
Eijkman calculated that the development of the antitoxin of the new coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2 will require one year to complete. “It is still in the early stage [of development].”
Bambang further encouraged Eijkman to collaborate with other institutions that were also developing COVID-19 vaccines , hoping the process could finish sooner.
