TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A pair of young siblings Tania Amelinda (15) and Maulida Lailatul (9) on Tuesday arrived at the Bekasi District General Hospital (RSUD Kabupaten Bekasi) that handles coronavirus (COVID-19) cases to donate their savings that were kept in a piggy bank.

The siblings from South Tambun in Bekasi decided to donate their savings amount to Rp2,270,000 which they slowly saved for the past year to help the hospital’s medical healthcare workers, specifically to provide them with sufficient personal protective equipment (APD or PPE).

“My daughters followed the news coverage on the coronavirus pandemic and the difficulties faced by the medics in obtaining APD,” said children’s parent Taih Minarno in Cikarang, Bekasi on Tuesday, April 28.

Minarno recalled their curiosity and how her daughters would often ask her about the importance of personal protective equipment is, especially in handling COVID-19 patients.

“The older sibling Amel was moved to donate her savings too with the sole purpose to help medical workers purchase APD,” Minarno said.

The donation was received by the hospital’s president director Sumarti on Tuesday, who constantly expressed appreciation for the act of kindness shown by the siblings who are barely 25 years old combined.

“Noble intentions upon helping each other truly do not know the age,” said the RSUD Kabupaten Bekasi Hospital president director. She also mentioned that this light amidst the gloomy pandemic will move others to do the same as medical workers are still in dear need for PPE.
