TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Health Office of the South Jakarta City Administration said a total of 13,065 residents in the city have undergone rapid testing for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) as of Saturday.

"Of the 13,065 people who underwent rapid tests, 12,646 tested negative and 419 tested positive," head of the Health Office, Muhammad Helmy, informed.

The number of residents testing positive for COVID-19 accounts for 3.2 percent of the total residents who have undergone rapid testing, he added.

Helmy said the tests have been conducted in South Jakarta ever since President Joko Widodo issued instructions for rapid testing on March 20, 2020.

The President ordered the implementation of COVID-19 rapid testing in South Jakarta before the rest of the country.

Helmy said rapid tests are targeting people under surveillance (ODP), patients under surveillance (PDP), and asymptomatic people (OTG), based on contact tracing of COVID-19 positive patients.

Meanwhile, Jakarta has remained the province with the highest number of infections.

According to the Task Force for the Acceleration of COVID-19 Response, Jakarta has recorded 3,684 cases so far, followed by West Java (907), East Java (770), Central Java (621), South Sulawesi (432), and Banten (370).

The task force has also reported that as of noon, April 25, 2020, the number of patients recovering from COVID-19 has increased by 40 to 1,042, while the confirmed case count has touched 8,607.

"A total of 8,607 cases have been confirmed, 1,042 people have recovered, and 720 people have died," Achmad Yurianto, the government's spokesperson for COVID-19 response, stated during a video conference held on Saturday.

The confirmed case count has risen by 396 from 8,211 the previous day, while the death toll has climbed by 31 from 689 recorded on April 24, 2020.
