TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Politics, Legal and Security, Mahfud MD, asserted that the mudik ban applies nationally.

"If the government announces the ban on mass exodus (mudik), [meaning that] it applies for all," Mahfud said in a streamed conference on Saturday, April 25.

The ban to not go on the homecoming trip, the annual tradition during Ramadan and Eid holidays, was set by the state on April 24. However, Mahfud admitted regions that have small records on COVID-19 positive cases are permitted to go mudik.

"But the point is that the ban applies across Indonesia," he underlined.

National Police Traffic Chief Inspector General Istiono said, based on the data obtained per Friday noon, April 24, some 1,400 vehicles at toll roads in Jakarta Greater Area (Jabodetabek) were asked to turn around and go back to their houses.

Istiono directly observed the mudik blockade post at Cikampek Toll KM 31 to assure that the public abides by the mudik ban policy set by the government to contain COVID-19 pandemic.
