5 Flight Services Permitted to Operate under Mudik Ban

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The operations of commercial flights in Indonesia are effectively grounded after the government imposed the ban on mudik (homecoming) travel in an attempt to break the chain of coronavirus (COVID-19) transmissions.

There are 15 airports managed by state-run airport operator Angkasa Pura I that have stopped serving commercial flights as of Friday, April 24, and will last to June 1, 2020.

“We hope that the mudik ban and the temporary service stoppage of commercial flights will have a significant contribution to the spread of COVID-19,” said Angkasa Pura I VP corporate secretary Handy Heryudhitiawan on Thursday, April 23.

However, Angkasa Pura I assures that there are five other flights that will continue to be in operations;

Flights carrying state-official leaders, state guests, and international organization representatives.
Flights specially tasked to repatriate Indonesians in foreign countries and vice versa.
Air transports carrying law enforcers and emergency services.
Cargo aircrafts carrying essential and important payloads.
Other operations that have obtained a special operational permit from the Ministry.
