TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Communication and Informatics Ministry (Kominfo) maintains that the COVID-19 contact-tracing mobile app PeduliLindungi is safe from damaging elements such as phishing and malware, dismissing public allegations suggesting otherwise.
“We can assure you that the information arising now is untrue because PeduliLindungi is able to be downloaded from the App Store or Play Store for both iOS and Android platforms and not from APK. So the app is secure from phishing and malware,” said Kominfo in a written statement on Friday, April 17.
The ministry also asserted that internet and telecommunication providers had equipped the system with multi-layered security measures for its users and fully-reviewed the app prior to making it available in public platforms.
The ministry claimed its PeduliLindungi app had been downloaded by one million users. The app also utilizes Bluetooth tracking, tracing, and fencing in order to prevent COVID-19 from spreading further in Indonesia.
