TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ancol Art Market will organize online performances in a collaboration with Directorate General of Culture at the Education and Culture Ministry, and eight artists.

The artists will show Betawi cultural icons. "To raise a positive image of Jakarta that isstricken by the huge coronavirus pandemic," said Ancol Art Market director Mia Maria on Thursday, April 9.

The online show will commence on April 7 until June 30, 2020. The artists will draw eight icons of Betawi culture in digital format. The icons include ondel-ondel, gigi balang, kembang kelapa, Betawinese batik, sadariah clothes, kerancang kebaya, bir pletok, and kerak telor.

Ancol Art Market invites public to enjoy Betawi culture online through its Instagram account "Pasar Seni Ancol".

"All of the activities will be held virtually so the people can stay at home," she said. Mia Maria explained that the images have been curated and those will be displayed at the gallery of Ancol Art Market once the Covid-19 social restriction is ended.

A pantun (poetic form) collaboration between artists and the general public will also be shown through the online event. Art performances and short classes will be held online through various platforms, namely Google Classroom, and YouTube channels; "Taman Impian Jaya Ancol playlist Pasar Seni Ancol" and "Budaya Saya", as well as through Instagram accounts @pasarseni_ancol and @budayasaya.

"This program aims at educating people, especially children, about Betawi culture,” Mia remarked.
