TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy announced that this year’s collective leave of Eid al-Fitr holidays is officially replaced in December.
“Yes, it will be on December 28-31, 2020,” said Muhadjir to Tempo on Thursday, April 9.
With the holiday replacement, the joint decree (SKB) concerning the 2020 national holidays and collective leave will be amended. “[The revision] is on the process,” he added.
Previously, the joint decree signed by Religious Affairs Minister, Manpower Minister, and Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform Minister noted the Eid holidays fall on May 22, 26, 27-29.
Earlier on April 2, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo revealed that the government was mulling to set new national holidays for Eid al-Fitr in a bid to bring some calm to the people who are advised to not go on the annual exodus or locally known mudik amid concerns over the spread of COVID-19.
“To bring some calm to the people, alternatives to substitute the national holidays for mudik this year to other days can be discussed,” said Jokowi when opening a limited meeting about the preparation for the 2020 Eid homecoming.
