TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara (MACAN), known as Museum MACAN, has been temporarily closed since Saturday, March 14, following the government's request to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

"For the sake of public safety, the MACAN Museum has been temporarily closed since Saturday. We will inform the public about the museum's reopening schedule, in line with security recommendations from the @dkijakarta Provincial Government," as quoted from the museum’s Instagram account @museummacan.

In spite of this, Museum MACAN now opens their virtual doors through the ‘Museum from Home’ program. Aaron Seeto, Director of MACAN, revealed that the virtual museum program aims to respond positively to the current social situation being faced globally.

In addition to prioritizing creativity and (providing) inspiration for parents, caregivers and professionals working at home, as well as children learning at home, "the ‘Museum from Home’ program is also an effort by Museum MACAN to present material that can be accessed and downloaded easily," Aaron said in a press release on Thursday, April 2, 2020.

With the ‘Museum from Home’ program, the public can now enjoy a range of online features, from virtual museums, exploring the museum’s collections with the curatorial team, to creative workshops that families can do at home, through the Museum MACAN’s website or social media channels.
