TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The top executives of Jakarta-based company, Gojek, will donate 25 percent of their salaries to drivers using the firm's ride-hailing application as the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak has dried up their source of daily income.

Gojek Co-CEOs along with Gojek's senior management team, donate 25 percent of their annual salary over the next 12 months, CEOs Andre Soelistyo and co-CEO Kevin Aluwi said in a joint statement received here on Tuesday.

The Gojek Partner Support Fund will be managed by the Yayasan Anak Bangsa Bisa foundation, a charity unit established by the tech firm, which will work with the Indonesian government, driver unions, and other social groups in the future.

In addition, Gojek opens the opportunity for their users to give more gratuities, including providing a nominal tip option of up to Rp 100,000 in the application which will be immediately accepted by the driver who fulfill the customer's order.

"The novel coronavirus pandemic has forced us to work from home, keeping us away from our comfort zone to run business quite differently now, and it has created a lot of challenges, but we must adapt to this hard situation," the statement read.

“But, to be honest, our problems are not greater than our driver partners' financial issues as their incomes are highly dependent on the country's economy, which has been hit by the pandemic," it added.
