Jokowi Announces 3 Million COVID-19 Medicine Set for Distribution

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, has announced that COVID-19 medicine has been ordered, with as much as three million medicine ready to be distributed to COVID-19 positive patients.

In particular, Jokowi has cited two medicines, Avigan and Chloroquine.

"The medicine will reach patients in need through doctors going from house to house, through hospitals and health centers in the area," Jokowi said at the Merdeka Palace, on Friday, March 20, 2020.

In terms of Avigan, the President continued, five thousand of the medicine has arrived and two million more are being ordered. On the other hand, three million Chloroquine had also been prepared.

"This speed is what we (the government) want to convey. We are not silent, instead are looking for things and information that can resolve COVID-19," Jokowi said.

Although the COVID-19 antivirus has yet to be formulated, Jokowi added, there are prescription medicines from research results and experiences of several countries that have succeeded in handling COVID-19.

In addition, the President has further ordered state-owned pharmaceutical enterprises to produce these medicines in large quantities.
