Anies Baswedan Closes Recreational Areas over Coronavirus

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan decided to shut down the recreational and entertainment places for the next two weeks in a bid to prevent the coronavirus transmission from spreading further in the capital.
“All tourist destinations and entertainment venues managed by Jakarta administration will be off-limits for the next two weeks,” said Anies at City Hall, Central Jakarta, on Friday, March 13.
He mentioned the entertainment venues to be closed included Ancol, Ragunan Zoo, the National Monument or Monas, and museums owned by the provincial administration.
The measure, he added, was taken to limit public interaction in open, crowded spaces in the wake of the virus pandemic. Moreover, the COVID-19 infection cases in the city dramatically climbed from 34 to 69 cases per March 13.
Additionally, the former education and culture minister was determined to suspend the Car Free Day event for the next two weeks.
Anies Baswedan then urged Jakarta residents to keep a distance from each other and avoid shaking hands considering the highest potential for the coronavirus transmission occurred during physical contact.
