TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Formula E Operations (FEO) will monitor conditions in Jakarta and maintain communications with Jakarta E-Prix Organizing Committee after they agreed to postpone the electric car racing events scheduled to take place in Jakarta in June. Communication is deemed important to determine new schedules of the Formula-E races in Jakarta once the spread of coronavirus is contained.

"With the number of COVID-19 cases continuing to rise in several countries, we are evaluating the plans that could minimize the impact of the coronavirus, at the same time maintaining the number of races for the 6th season," Formula E Co-Founder Alberto Longo said in a statement received on Wednesday.

"Nowadays the situation is dynamic, developing every day; we remain realistic and flexible in approaching alternative options which we will certainly communicate," he added.

Although the Formula E is being postponed, Longo stated that the infrastructure provisions that was meant for the race will still be prepared.

"This will include adding double-headers to ongoing activities, using permanent facilities, and holding closed races at any location if needed and requested by the local government," Longo said explaining the activities currently carried out by the FEO.

Formula E in Jakarta was officially postponed until an undetermined date by Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan due to the outbreak of the coronavirus which currently affects 26 people in Indonesia with one death toll.

The delay was carried out in anticipation of the Jakarta Provincial Government on the spread of the coronavirus in public spaces.

In addition to Formula E, the Jakarta Provincial Government has also eliminated car-free days (HBKB) for two weeks starting on Sunday, March 15.
