TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Health Minister Terawan Agus Putranto said there were three positive things that could be drawn from the coronavirus outbreak in the country.

First, he said, the discovery would at least prove that Indonesia was capable of detecting the virus. “First, we detected the virus,” he said at his ministry office in Jakarta on Monday, March 2, 2020.

Second, Terawan said the discovery could serve as material for further research so as to create a vaccine or any other related substance.

“Whether we use it to make a vaccine or any other thing, we will continue researching,” the doctor said.

Third, he went on, was that the two COVID-19 patients were healthy. The 64-year-old mother and her 31-year-old daughter are presently treated at Sulianti Saroso Infectious Diseases Hospital. “At least I know that they are healthy,” Terawan said.

President Jokowi announced today the fist discovery of the coronavirus in the country as two Indonesians had tested positive for the COVID-19. Both contracted the virus after they made contact with a Japanese national who was infected with the virus during the latter’s visit to Indonesia recently.
