TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo promoted the new capital city during his speech in the Digital Economy Summit 2020 in Jakarta today. Before tech giant Microsoft, he said that the new capital will implement digital technology and be free from flooding and congestion.
He then welcomed all guests to give a contribution to the development of the digital economy in Indonesia. “The opportunity is widely opened, including during the construction of the new capital in East Kalimantan,” said the state head in Jakarta, February 27.
According to Widodo, the relocation of the new administrative center will be a huge leap in the history of the country’s digitalization.
“So I invite all people here and the global technology industry to take a role in this transformation,” the former governor of Jakarta remarked.
Jokowi further mentioned his goal to have a special cluster of world-class research and technology similar to Silicon Valley in the United States, which is the home for many tech giants.
However, the government could not get deals with investors yet since the masterplan of the capital city construction was still being finalized. The National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) head or Minister Suharso Monoarfa targeted the plan completion in mid-2020 so that the construction could be commenced next year.
